Oil advertising
To the editor:
Congratulations, BP, ConocoPhillips, Exxon Mobil and friends. These oil companies have managed to bring broad consensus on an issue in Alaska.
As far as I can tell, there are few people who think the current advertising blitz is effective. I have observed that a broad range of liberals and conservatives, pro-development folks and greenies all seem to think that the ads are all smoke and mirrors. What are the companies trying to hide?
Between the governor and the companies, there is precious little information out there for the people of Alaska to fairly judge the issues. The balance between taxation and investment requires careful consideration and deserves more than a propaganda campaign. If they are trying to win allies with the people of Alaska, they should get these ads out of the media and provide some useful information.
