They should’ve finished early

State lawmakers and staff looking to blow off a little steam after the end of the failed special session with a drink or two were out of luck. Juneau’s public houses close early, and being a big shot on the hill carries no clout at the bar.

The special legislative session ended at about midnight on Thursday. By 12:50 a.m. every bar downtown was shut tight.

From the Triangle to the Viking, the Rendezvous and the Lucky Lady, bartenders sent lawmakers packing without a glass to toast their victories or drown their defeats.

It was enough to make one legislator quip that there should be a law allowing public servants at least one drink when legislative sessions end.
