Hickel on gas line
To the editor:
I would like to speak in support of Walter Hickel’s article in your June 15 issue and in regard to the current state gas line issue that is more and more prominent in the news these days.
Though I might disagree with Hickel on a few minor details, I think he is absolutely correct that the state of Alaska should not hand over to a group of international corporations the building of a gas line and the distribution of the fuel in favor of their company interests.
Put simply, the state should take responsibility for this project, build the line, and make the fuel available to the towns, villages and citizens of the state, and according to local and statewide needs.
Anything else will be a betrayal of the people of Alaska and their civil and community rights, now and in the future.
