Palin and Exxon
From R.A. Dillon, our occasional correspondent in Juneau:
Gov. Sarah Palin said her administration would be filing friend of the court brief, or amicus brief, in the U.S. Supreme Court review of the Exxon Valdez punitive damage case. Palin said the Department of Law has been working on the brief for the past few days.
A bipartisan group of legislators held a news conference Monday afternoon urging the administration to join the case on the side of the nearly 33,000 fishermen, Alaska Natives and local property owners who suffered when the tanker Exxon Valdez struck Bligh Reef in Prince William Sound in 1989 spilling 11 million gallons of crude oil.
News-Miner reporters Stefan Milkowski and Eric Lidji bring you up-to-date info about the governor's oil tax and
the gas line plans as well as tossing in some tidbits that have nowhere else to go.
