Conflicts of interest and interesting conflicts
From R.A. Dillon in Juneau:
The House is getting down to work on revising PPT. Rep. Gabrielle Ladoux called on any lawmakers with a potential conflict of interest to excuse themselves from voting on the tax bill.
Reps. Kevin Meyer, R-Anchorage; Mike Hawker, R-Anchorage; and Mike Chenault, R-Nikiski, said there may be the perception of conflict and asked to be excused. There were objections to the requests, so according to House rules the members will be required to vote.
Ladoux called for a vote, which drew the ire of House Speaker John Harris. Harris overruled Ladoux.
Meyer works for ConocoPhillips.
Chenault owns a construction company that does work in the oil patch.
Hawker’s wife works for ConocoPhillips.
