Senate action under way
From R.A. Dillon in Juneau, for us:
The game’s afoot. The Senate took to the floor at 7 p.m. to amend the oil tax law. I went through the amendments in a previous post earlier today.
So far the Senate has approved Fairbanks Sen. Joe Thomas’ amendment that brings the tax rate for all natural gas produced for instate use to 5 percent – the same as Cook Inlet.
The second amendment to tighten up the lease expenditures, including prohibitions for deducting expenses incurred from poor maintenance, just passed by a vote of 13 to 6.
They’re now considering making that amendment retroactive.
News-Miner reporters Stefan Milkowski and Eric Lidji bring you up-to-date info about the governor's oil tax and
the gas line plans as well as tossing in some tidbits that have nowhere else to go.
