While embedded with the 172nd Stryker Brigade, reporter Margaret Friedenauer kept a Web log of her observations. This item was filed Dec. 26, 2005

There have been many priceless quotes I’ve heard, but in the spirit of the holiday season, there are two exceptional gems I thought the friends and families of soldiers would appreciate.

“This is something you can tell your grandkids about in years to come — you spent Christmas in Iraq playing dodge ball.”

– Capt. Matthew Eberhart, Alpha Troop, 4th Squadron, 14th Cavalry after the soldiers’ Christmas Eve dodge ball game.

“You shouldn’t feed boxed salmon to a bunch of soldiers from Alaska.”

– Lt. Col. Mark Freitag speaking about the 21-day food rotation of the meals the outpost receives. Last month, the outpost erroneously received copious amounts of the boxed salmon dinner, much to the chagrin of the soldiers from Alaska. Freitag contacted the supply personnel to have the oversight corrected.
