Alaska Conservation Camp - Advanced Camp

Description

The Alaska Conservation Camp - Advanced Camp is a day camp program to promote understanding of Alaska's natural resources and conservation, and to give hands on experience in hunting, shooting, fishing and related skills at various locations near Fairbanks.
Activities may include firearms safety, shotgun or muzzleloader rifle shooting, archery, wildlife identification, fly fishing, fly tying, GPS and outdoor navigation, canoeing, outdoor survival, shelter building, camping and field cooking skills and more, plus a hike and two-day overnight camping trip.
Drop-off 7-8 a.m. and pick-up 5-6 p.m. A camp BBQ and graduation for campers and their families is June 19, 4:30 to 6 p.m.

Alaska Summer Research Academy (ASRA)

Description

ASRA is a fun two week academic experience on the UAF campus for students in grades 8-12. Students work in small groups with university faculty, staff, and industry professionals.
Students choose one module (or course) and are immersed in a single subject for two weeks. The approach is experiential-hands-on and minds-on rather than lecture or worksheets.
One college credit is given upon completion.

CAFE Kids Cooking Camp

Description

Fun food that YOU can make and eat is the focus of this camp. Bake biscuits, pretzels, muffins and tortillas. Cook individual casseroles and make ice cream, cream cheese playdough, and freezer jam. In the process learn kitchen safety and etiquette, food presentation, and how to clean up efficiently. On the last day invite two guests to an English Tea Party with you as the host/hostess.

CAFE Teen International Culinary Arts Academy

Description

Here is a culinary adventure for teens. Explore different recipes from Africa, France, Japan, Spain and the USA. Learn a variety of cooking methods along with kitchen safety, etiquette, food safety and presentation. Consume the creative results with gusto. A demonstration of skills will be presented on the last day of class for up to two invited guests per student.

CAFE Tween International Culinary Arts Workshop

Description

This class will take pre-teens on an international tour of recipes from Africa, France, Japan, Spain and the USA. Prepare, present and consume culinary delights from each country's cuisines while learning the basics of food safety, kitchen etiquette, and clean-up. Invite two guests to the final class.

Camp Talkabout Olympics

Denali Science Camp

Description

Denali Science Camp is a week-long hands-on science experience for youth-grades 1-6. The camp operates out of Denali Elementary School in Fairbanks. Students are grouped into study groups by topic for mornings of enrichment, study and discovery. Afternoons are filled with experiments, dissections, field trips, observations, guest presenters, and other high interest activities. Campers overnight one evening at Chena Lakes. Tents and meals are provided.

Insect Studies Summer Camp

Description

Join Derek Sikes, entomologist extraordinaire, for a week in the outdoors chasing all forms of our six-legged friends. Peer and Victim-Offender Mediation Training

Description

Mediation training teaches critical skills in communication and conflict resolution. Youth are trained to co-facilitate cases involving youth offenders and victims or peers with a dispute. Project Safety Net Video Camp

Description

Participants will learn how to make a 30-second and one minute public service announcement and a documentary about the camp.
The issue we will explore is providing a safety net for runaway and homeless youth. It will give a voice to those who have lived in shelters, suffered from mental health issues or have felt disconnected from the community. Apply for acceptance in July. (Limited to 25 participants.)

Spanish For Young Adventurers

Description

Want to take advantage of your youngster's innate ability to absorb language? Camp is held on the UAF campus for three hours each weekday morning over the course of two weeks, and includes games, musical activities, food preparation, and outdoor activities, all in a friendly and patient environment. No prior experience with the Spanish language is necessary.
Instructor, Siri Engstrom, has an M.A. in Spanish and has over 10 years experience teaching and living in Spanish speaking countries.

This training will prepare youth to prosecute and defend real criminal cases of first time juvenile offenders. Wild Rose Summer Camp

Description

Wild Rose Summr Camp is an outdoor educational camp providing children with an enthusiastic experience of nature coupled with a creative arts program. Children will participate in many art activities including felting with wool fiber, painting on silk, batiking, plant dyeing on natural fibers, string games, papermaking from plants, marbling, t-shirt tie-dyeing, block printing, copper foil embossing, candle dipping, book binding, marbling, and pottery.
Afternoons are filled with games, hiking, nature study, plant and bird identification, insect and garden study, beekeeping, puppetry, and storytelling. Children will also participate in building, cooking and firing pottery in an outdoor mud oven. Space is limited, apply early.
