Well many people here today I see. As for the reporting, she does say lots about herself, this is in direct relation to what our troops go through each day, theminor irritations and such they we know little of. This is her expreiences that are told yes. and yet she is free to look at things in a different light other than.... is this person going to kill me, She has the freedom from that more so than the rest of Stryker. She shows the human side of the action in country... she does report on the troops, what they do, and the interactions with the natives. The is much better than the canned crap that the major media outlets give us. I have been to other countries, visited with many other people that have been under dictators, communism and such. Touched the scars, the tattoos from the Nazis... I have learned from these... and Margaret is teaching us the same things. Open up people see what she is doing.... support her and the troops.

Personally I am enjoying the heck out of these articles and you keep on writing em the way you are - folks back here in the Fairbanks area appreciate it - gives us a better insight as to the situation in Iraq as compared to the mainstream media. I was part of the reconstruction effort with the Iraq Fire Service as a DOD civilian in 2004 - great to seem someone reporting good stuff and most of us in Alaska appreciate the home spun style you are writing in rather than the "fancy" crap the maintream media puts out.

In defense of Amber and Dave -

Dear Margaret, please stop reporting on yourself.

It appears that we are getting more news on yourself and your experiences, than we are getting about the on-the-ground conditions for our troops, men and women soldiers, the missions and issues, and certainly not anything at all on the Iraqis themseleves.

Have you conducted an interview with an Iraqi since you have landed? I mean our soldiers are getting killed protecting these people and have brought democracy and freedom to them. Maybe we could hear a bit about what they think?

A reporter is to report on the objective ground conditions. A reporter does not report on the observer. The only time Michael Yon really reported on himself was when he picked up the gun to defend the injured LTC Kurilla. He was part of the news.

So Marge, please STOP REPORTING ON YOURSELF (or you should change the name of your blog to "Autobiography from Iraq").

Stay safe - watch your 6.

Thanks zzedo310 for the sarcasm. I on the other hand didn't think that was to cute. She is with his stryker brigade so I figured she might have met him. After all he is one of the guys that is keeping her safe.

Margaret,

We heard the piece on KUAC this morning. You were wonderful, sounding so calm, self-assured and professional. You are an amazing, brave woman and remain a topic of conversation many times a day here at America's farthest north daily newspaper. We are all very honored and humbled to know you, and are immensely proud of the phenomenal writing you are doing.

I have been racking my brain for days. What small gift can we send to Margaret via this blog? Aha! Last night it came to me, so here it is . . .

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

. . . a very generous sprinkling of the good old semi-colon for you to use at your leisure. Enjoy and feel free to be liberal!

Take care, you are missed, we all send our warmest thoughts to you and our troops. We are extremely grateful for the hospitality and protection being extened on your behalf. We await the safe return of all of you.

Amber:
As an NCO readying to deploy again soon, I read Margaret’s stories and journal entries with great interest. We don’t yearn to be glamorized as heroes or pitied as hopeless pawns in a political turmoil. To have someone write about the mud and the mosquitoes and the saving of a local youngster from drowning sends the right message home. It gives people a glimpse of what we go through to do our jobs. It gives the public a peek at the mission from ground level instead of some war room in the Pentagon. We don’t want medals or sympathy. We would like people to appreciate that we will do our duty to the best of our ability. We would like people to exercise their right to vote when they don’t like the job we are called on to do. We would like people to take pride in displaying our nation’s flag and pay respect to Old Glory. I would wager high stakes that your son, likewise, would like nothing more than to have his family and community proud of him.
“…nothing relevant…”, are you serious? How about the development of the Iraqi security forces, which ultimately will determine when our forces come home? What would you have her report?
Margaret:
Keep up the good work. I’ve been there, done that, doing it again soon.

Margaret,
My boyfriend is in the 172nd Stryker Brigade, Bravo Company. His name is Cody Stowe. Have you met him yet? If you come across him will you tell him that I love him and miss him so much. He was just home in Texas on his R&R. Watching him get on that plane and leave was the hardest thing i've ever done. Thank you so much for what you are doing. It makes me feel a lot better to know what is going on over there.

Thanks
