I would like to help out PebblePie inwhat to bring to Iraq. Here are some of the thngs i have vrought to make my life a little more comfortable. For bathing I recommend liquid type soap since the water is very hard in Iraq. Some bar soaps feel like you are just rubbing paint on your body. A good set of shower shoes that are not the traditional flip flop. I advise getting the type that wraps over the top of the foot. Its easier to walk on uneven ground in those. Bring at least three laundry bags. Laundry bags just ain't for laundry. For the living areas ia good set of Christmas lights are nice, they provide lots of light but aren't as bright as the usual provided lights. I advise bringing at least two sets of twin sheets and a few nice pillows. Extra pillow cases wouldn't hurt. Iraq is a dusty dirty place. For the must have list, lots of DVD's, music, a small chiller type cooler, a very comfortable lawn chair, and anything that you can't live without at home.

I bet that was an odd moment for you. when they heard fireworks... I am sure they may have thought you were meaning something else. Unfortunatly... last year, my brother did "shoot off" many "fire works" not only on new years, but also the 4th and each and every other holiday while he was in A-stan. At the end of his time in country, (close to the elcetions) his base had become a favorite target.

Sending all our support to you and all the folks there.

My wife posted this on her blog today, she is Argentine.

An excellent e-mail a friend sent to me!!!

"There were protesters on the train platform handing out pamphlets on
the evils of America. I politely declined to take one. An elderly woman
was behind me getting off the escalator and a young (20ish) female protester offered her a pamphlet, which she politely declined.

The young protester put her hand on the old woman's shoulder as a
gesture of friendship and in a very soft voice said, "Ma'am, don't you care about
the children of Iraq?"

The old woman looked up at her and said, "Honey, my first husband died
in France during World War II, my second husband died in Korea, one of my
sons died in Vietnam, a Grandson died in Desert Storm, all so that you could
have the right to stand here and bad mouth our country. If you touch me
again. I'll stick this umbrella up your ass and open it."

Sorry for the Colorful word, but the troops may like to know that even other countries make their fight personal too.

Chau Y suerte.
