Gatt was the third musher to reach the halfway point of the 1,000 mile race between Fairbanks and Whitehorse, Yukon. Gatt was the first musher to leave the previous checkpoint in Eagle but was passed by Lance Mackey of Kasilof and William Kleedehn of Carcross, Yukon, who arrived first and second respectively.
