Eric Engman/News-Miner Defending champion Lance Mackey of Kasilof is the first musher back onto the trail out of the Dawson City checkpoint during the 2006 Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race early Saturday morning, Feb. 18. Because of warm weather and lack of snow in Whitehorse, Yukon, this year's race will go to the Pelly Crossing checkpoint, turn around, and return to Dawson for the finish.
